Mission & Goals of Venerable Trees

Mission:  The mission of Venerable Trees is to preserve the remaining old-growth trees of the Kentucky Bluegrass through outreach,  publications, education and research, and to promote the planting of native trees in urban and agricultural landscapes of the Bluegrass.


  •  Goal 1: Work with land owners to improve management and ensure longevity of old trees in agricultural landscapes.
  • Goal 2: Work to preserve as many Venerable Trees as possible during commercial and residential development, through collaboration with developers, land owners and tree care professionals.
  • Goal 3: Establish cooperative nurseries to produce seedlings and cuttings from local Venerable Trees, and to make these trees available for replacement planting.
  • Goal 4: Engage in applied research to ensure a sustainable future for the Venerable Trees of the Bluegrass.
